UPDATE: hmm i've been having some trouble with Audacious and internet music streams. It drops the connection or hangs quite abit. Using good 'ol VLC is working better for this. Hopefully a newer version of Audacious will improve things.

I was looking for a replacement for XMMS and I found this. A cool and compact audio player for GNU/Linux. It's similar to XMMS or Winamp, but it is actively maintained. This is a good thing as XMMS is aging. Check it out here.
